2016 Winter Classic Concert (3-7-16)

Our first public Concert for the year at the Toronto Workers Club was attended by a warm and friendly audience. The program featured some classic brass items such as Bandology, Fanfare & Soliloquy and Dvorak's "From the New World" Symphony. This concert chose to highlight the many very talented soloists within the band - Trish O'Hearn - Born on the Fourth of July - Bb Cornet; Garry Kosky - Love's Enchantment - Trombone; Robert Scanlon - He ain't heavy, He's my Brother - Tenor Horn; Dave Taylor - Spread our Wide Wings - Euphonium and Tim O'Hearn - Rodrigo's Aranjuez Concerto on Flugel Horn.

Finishing up with the Irish Blessing "May the road rise up to meet you, May the wind always be at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your face, and the rains fall soft upon your fields". There may have been a few tears shed with this final number.

Keep an eye & ear out on our youtube channel for some of these concert items.

See you at the next concert

This year the band competed in Open B Grade. The Grade was won by Boroondara Brass from Victoria, second Cairns Brass QLD and a podium third place taken out by yours truly Toronto Brass. A huge thank-you to our musical director Timothy O'Hearn for the hours of preparation and work put into this event.

The band played a fantastic rendition of Love Divine - Brian Bowen which scored the band first place in the Hymn Section.
Out first time marching with Rebekah Allen as the Drum Major to the tune of The Middy - Kenneth J Alford was nothing but fun. Check out our youtube of the corner turn -

On Monday a few members competed in the solos and ensembles sections. Nicholas Scott placed 3rd in the Open High Tuba Eb, Kindi Smith placed 6th in the Open Soprano, the Open Quintet (Tim, Trish, Robert, Garry & Nicholas) a brilliant 2nd and the Open Quartet (Kindi, Greg, Robert & Dave) a resounding 3rd place.
We hope you were able to catch some of the events on the live streaming.

Our regional neighbours also did extremely well. Central Coast Brass secured 2nd place in Open A Grade, an outstanding performance and Maitland City Brass placed 5th in a very competitive Open C Grade.

Hope to see you at our upcoming concerts !

Nationals Quest Concert Review (19-3-16)

Three local brass bands, Toronto Brass, Central Coast Brass and Maitland City brass band, in high community spirit gathered on Saturday afternoon to present to family, friends and the wider public music that will performed at the National Band Championships at Galwer SA over Easter. This free concert was hosted by Toronto Brass and received by a very appreciative audience who were treated to some fantastic brass music. Hymns, Test pieces, own choice and marches were all on show.
By far the crowd favourite was the Central Coast Brass’s Own Choice - The Triumph of Time by Peter Graham, exceptionally played.

For those who could not make the concert, you can still catch the bands streaming live on brassbanned.com over the Easter weekend, Friday and Sunday.

Concert conductors: Conrad Curry (Central Coast Brass), Timothy O'Hearn (Toronto Brass) and Luke Bradbery (Maitland City Brass Band)
